Family Fun, Local Flavor, and Spooky Stories

Fall in the Triangle is full of reasons to get out and explore, from festive traditions and family-friendly fun to offbeat celebrations you’ll only find here. Whether you’re looking for a ghostly stroll through historic Wake Forest, a chance to climb aboard a fire truck in Cary, or a briny bash in Durham, this season has something for everyone.

Spirits of Wake Forest | Wake Forest

Looking for a hauntingly good time this fall? The “Spirits of Wake Forest” Ghost Walk is back and ready to share the town’s spookiest stories.

Presented by Wake Forest Downtown, Inc. and Firebox Theatre Company, these guided tours bring more than a century of downtown history to life — with a chilling twist. From historic storefronts to familiar sidewalks, you’ll hear the legends of restless spirits that still linger along South White Street.

What to know:

  • Tours begin at Wake Forest Town Hall (301 South Brooks Street).

  • They start right on time, so plan to arrive early.

  • The walk stays within the downtown business district (no private residences included).

  • Storytellers from FTC make the experience immersive and unforgettable.

Whether you’re a history buff, a Halloween enthusiast, or just love a good ghost story, this fall tradition is the perfect way to experience downtown Wake Forest in a new light. Check out all the details and purchase your tickets here.

Public Safety Day | Cary

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and head to downtown Cary’s S. Academy Street for a day of fun, learning, and community connection at Cary Police Department’s Public Safety Day.

This free, family-friendly event is packed with activities for all ages:

Pickle Party | Durham

Durham, get ready — it’s pickle time. Wickles Pickle Beer at Hi-Wire Brewing is making its return, and the celebration promises to be anything but ordinary. Brewed with cucumbers, dill, Himalayan salt, and peppercorn, this crisp sour takes inspiration from Wickles’ 90-year-old recipe that’s equal parts sweet, sour, and spicy.

The taproom is throwing a full-on pickle bash, complete with:

  • Pickle Flights: Three types of Wickles pickles paired with a 4oz pour of Pickle Beer.

  • Pickle Eating Contest: Test your speed and win Wickles swag. Sign-up begins at the taproom.
  • Pickle Cocktails: $5 Pickle Backs, $6 Pickle Bloody Marys, plus a garnish bar for the ultimate briny twist.

Check out their Facebook page for all of the details!

No matter your style  (spooky, family-focused, or foodie) the Triangle is serving up plenty of ways to make the most of the season.
